The Mercurial R9 and Tiempo are now sneakers
Did someone say BootsOnlySummer?
May 30th, 2025
On the eve of the Champions League final, Nike unveiled its new sneaker collection dubbed Cryoshtot. A line of shoes that reimagines the brand's most iconic football boots with the Swoosh: the upper's design faithfully echoes the lines of the Tiempo 1994 or the Mercurial R9. What truly propels this collection into the realm of streetwear is the transparent sole, within which rubber studs have been embedded.
As mentioned, the launch came just hours before kick-off of PSG-Inter, and it was the players of the two teams set to face off Saturday night at the Allianz Arena who served as ambassadors for the release. In particular, Niccolò Barella and Warren Zaïre-Emery, as they departed for the trip to Munich, chose to wear models inspired respectively by the iconic 1994 Tiempos and the 1976 Striker. A teaser of what Nike has now made official on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
With this new chapter, Nike freezes football’s DNA and projects it into the future. Inspired by cryopreservation, these historic silhouettes are reinterpreted for those who live between the pitch and the street. Cryoshot is nostalgia turned innovation, and yet another confirmation that the BootsOnlySummer trend has become the real hit of this summer. Football boots can now be worn on any occasion.
