The adidas jacket designed to withstand the cold of the Olympics Enhanced by Climawarm technology, which protects against sub-zero temperatures
As elite athletes prepare for Winter Games, adidas unveils its innovative Climawarm system; a next-generation, high-performance pre-heating technology designed for competition in the most extreme cold conditions. Comprised of a pre-heating jacket and pants that will be worn by some of the world’s leading winter sports athletes, the system helps address one of the most critical challenges in winter sports: maintaining muscle readiness and preserving maximum power even in extreme cold.
Ultra-thin, intelligent Clim8 heating pads are integrated directly into the garments and strategically positioned on key muscle groups, helping to reduce heat loss during warm-up and waiting periods. Featuring Eco and Boost modes, the adaptive system responds to the wearer’s movement and environmental conditions. Through targeted thermal assistance, the system delivers warmth to the most important areas of the body when it is needed most, while an integrated safety mechanism helps prevent overheating. The jacket and pants are made from a low-bulk fabric optimized for performance and designed to move with the athlete, supporting sprints, slides, pushes, and starts during warm-ups and pre-start routines. Designed to be worn only before competition and removed at the start line, the system integrates seamlessly into elite competition routines. The pre-heating technology was developed in collaboration with world-class winter sports programs and is based on extensive athlete feedback and observation across disciplines such as cross-country skiing, bobsleigh, and skeleton.
Margherita Raccuglia, Director of Athlete Performance at adidas, stated: «The Climawarm system is designed to address a simple yet complex challenge that athletes face at the start line: maintaining the muscle temperature generated during warm-up, even in the cold. We know that it is during the pre-competition phase—the interval between active warm-up and the start of competition—that heat is lost, yet it is also the moment when maintaining muscle power is most critical. Supported by testing across multiple sports, the Climawarm system has been engineered to tackle this issue, ensuring athletes maintain optimal muscle temperature and maximize power during the pre-competition period».
