The Champions League was all about elegance last night Liverpool and PSG debuted their Tommy Hilfiger and Dior looks
Champions League matches are unmissable occasions. On the pitch and off it. Last night's games were the perfect example. The fact that fashion partners have become an integral part of the aesthetic identity of teams, players and managers is now well established. Every now and then, however, it is still surprising to see just how effortlessly these collections can steal the spotlight.
PSG - Dior
The first example came from the Parc des Princes. We were all looking forward to seeing Barcelona's players arrive at the stadium once again wearing their new AMIRI collection, but it was PSG's players who stole the show instead. The reason was simple: tailored suits by DIOR. A classic jacket-and-trousers combination, available in blue or black and paired with a white shirt. Some players added a tie, while others opted for a cleaner look, buttoning their shirts all the way to the top.
Traditional elegance, but far from boring. Quite the opposite. The looks felt perfectly suited to the Champions League stage, adding another layer of beauty to a match that promised plenty of spectacle and delivered on the pitch.
Liverpool - Tommy Hilfiger
There had been a few teasers on social media throughout the day, but that did little to diminish the impact of Liverpool's players arriving at Anfield in the 2026 Fall Tommy Hilfiger collection. The players' tunnel fits were sensational. A style that might not traditionally belong to the world of football nevertheless felt entirely natural just two hours before kick-off in Europe's most prestigious club competition.
As last season, the Reds did not all wear the same outfit. Instead, they turned into models, sporting white roll-neck jumpers, checked jackets, pinstripe suits, camel coats and leather jackets. Through their contrasting colours and textures, these tailoring details pushed the boundaries of football aesthetics, even in its most formal expression, without betraying its traditions or, worse still, falling into banality.
From Louis Vuitton to Brioni, the Champions League's fashion partners
These two collections are part of a much broader picture, in which every club is now looking to develop its own sartorial identity. And when we say every club, we mean every club. Even in Baku, Azerbaijan, Sabah turn up for matches in elegant all-black outfits, broken up only by the club crest embroidered in shocking pink above the breast pocket.
And the examples do not end there. Tonight, we could see Como's tailored suits by Brioni back in the spotlight, while Real Madrid will once again arrive in Louis Vuitton on their next away trip. Then there are more casual takes, such as Roma's partnership with DSQUARED2 and Atlético Madrid's with AlphaTauri, alongside the more contemporary looks of Manchester City in CP Company. Put all these elements together and we return to the starting point: the Champions League has become a tournament defined by elegance, where expressing your own style is just as important as ever. On and off the pitch.
