Sky blue returns to Ajax’s shirt A color worn by Litmanen, Eriksen, Vertonghen, Ibra, Cruyff and other club legends
Ajax and adidas unveil the club’s 2026/2027 third kit, the first of the Dutch side’s three jerseys to debut ahead of next season. The sky-blue shirt features dark blue details, a recognizable color combination that will instantly bring back memories for many supporters. Ajax have in fact worn this palette before. During the 1980s, the club played in a sky-blue shirt for three consecutive seasons, winning two league titles and one domestic cup. The color combination later returned in the 2002/2003 and 2011/2012 seasons, with Ajax once again lifting the league title that year.
In short, some of the Ajax players who have worn a sky-blue shirt over the years include Jari Litmanen, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Johan Cruyff and Andy van der Meyde. A return to this colorway had been in the air for quite some time: over the last two seasons, Ajax had already introduced away kits featuring shades of blue and sky blue, a stylistic direction that had rarely been explored in the past. White, blue, grey and green had traditionally been the dominant colors for the club’s away shirts, without ever truly moving close to sky blue.
