The best anthem jackets of the 2024/25 season
Varsity, zip jacket, and 90s aesthetic
October 18th, 2024
After the international break, the major leagues returned to the field, bringing with them the sense of novelty that had been suspended before the break. With the first four rounds of the Champions League and the drop in temperatures, we began to see the so-called anthem jackets again—those worn by players during the pre-match phase, when teams line up to listen to and sing the anthems, both the Champions League anthem and those of the teams or leagues.
Bologna and Sampdoria - Macron
After standing out by signing an agreement with C.P. Company as a fashion partner, Bologna completes its set of pre-match apparel with a garment that is a hybrid between a varsity jacket (with details like buttons and raglan sleeves) and a coach jacket (for its material and less bulky structure). Whether you like it or not, this piece represents a unique item in the European football scene. This is a choice by the Italian technical sponsor Macron, which has replicated the same model for Sampdoria in Serie B: the jacket is identical, with only the club colors differing between the two teams.
Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus - adidas
Major suppliers like adidas and Nike are synonymous with variety, both in terms of design and, above all, for their innovation and research in materials and the refinement of silhouettes. The German company has showcased this excellently in the early outings of clubs like Juventus and Bayern Munich, between Champions League and league matches. On the one hand, the Bianconeri proudly displayed the gold color on their acetate jacket in the last Champions League match, a hue that is part of the club's history. On the other hand, Bayern Munich players, facing already chilly temperatures in Bavaria, wore a more structured jacket, a model adidas reintroduces season after season.
Then, adidas' Beckenbauer line expanded with releases dedicated to clubs: all those in adidas' tier A received a custom made Adicolor Classic track top, and some have already worn it during the anthem, like Arsenal.
Inter and Chelsea - Nike
Now dealing with the presentation of the new FW 2024/25 collection in collaboration with Canali, the new fashion partner that replaced Moncler, the Nerazzurri have been far ahead of other clubs in launching their anthem jacket. They didn’t keep fans waiting for the launch of a piece that, especially for the clubs, could become a bestseller in the coming years. Always paired with the jersey they wear on the field — in fact, they used a very simple version during their 0-0 draw in their Champions League debut against Manchester City — the best one is likely the one seen for the first time in their league draw against Monza: inverted swoosh and a pattern that recalls the match kit. However, the new Nike Tech in collaboration with One Block Down was released afterwards: still not available on the market, it has received almost unusual appreciation As for Chelsea, it would have been too easy for Nike to replicate the same pattern as the Home kit on the anthem jacket, but we do not rule out that the Swoosh might do so in future matches of the Blues. Replacing the futuristic pattern is a jacket with 90s vibes.
Napoli - EA7
Following the excitement generated by Coca-Cola branding on the training shirts of De Laurentiis' club, Napoli has decided to place the logo of the world's most famous beverage on the track top worn during the pre-match. With its collar, pattern, and branding, the result is a unique jacket.
We are still at the end of November, and keeping in mind the considerable increase in seasonal matches, many more anthem jackets will debut on the field in the coming months, each very different from the other, but above all, a valid alternative to the classic jerseys.
