Udinese's new kit pays tribute to rebuilding and resilience It marks the 50th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck Friuli in 1976

Udinese and Macron have unveiled a special kit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck Friuli on May 6, 1976. A jersey that goes beyond simply remembering one of the most tragic moments in Italian history, celebrating instead the reaction of the Friulian people and their determination—as well as their strength—to rebuild after that dramatic event. Dignity and resilience are powerfully expressed in the famous phrase that appeared on a crumbling wall in Venzone, one of the hardest-hit towns: "Il Friuli ringrazia e non dimentica" ("Friuli thanks you and does not forget"). This message stands boldly across the chest of the special kit.

The kit features a stone-like silver color and a sublimated graphic inspired by the stones of the façade of the Duomo of Venzone, the Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle. The building, completely destroyed by the earthquake, became one of the key symbols of Friulian resilience and reconstruction thanks to its faithful rebuilding, stone by stone, using the original elements. Another meaningful detail is represented by the ‘V’ elements, both regular and inverted, created through tone-on-tone sublimation printing, converging toward the central inscription and echoing both the crest of Udine and the club, as well as the façade of the Duomo itself. The jersey features a V-neck collar with black-and-white trim, while the sleeve cuffs are asymmetrical: the left one is black-and-white, while the right one is entirely black, referencing a mourning armband in remembrance of the victims.

The backneck is customized with a red label featuring the golden heraldic eagle, symbol of Friuli and Udine, along with the inscription "L’Orcolat 6 maggio 1976". “Orcolat,” a Friulian term referring to a mythical creature believed to cause earthquakes, became synonymous with the disaster in local culture after 1976. On the left side sits the Udinese crest in its vintage version used in the 1980s. The phrase "IL FRIULI RINGRAZIA E NON DIMENTICA", printed in black across the chest, mirrors the lines and details of the original writing on the wall. On the outer back collar, also in black, the text "FRIULI 1976-2026" is printed in the same style as the front. The kit is completed by stone-silver shorts with the same sublimated print evoking the walls of the Duomo of Venzone, with black-and-white detailing on the hem. The socks are also stone grey, featuring two thin horizontal black-and-white stripes just below the top edge.
