American Wedding: 50 Years of Soccer in the United States A documentary by nss and Soccertes on the journey of American soccer
On the eve of the 2026 World Cup, which is set to shine a spotlight on North America, nss announces the launch of American Wedding: 50 Years of Soccer in the United States. This documentary project, independently conceived, written, and produced by nss with the invaluable collaboration of Soccertes, traces an unprecedented and profound portrait of soccer's evolution in the United States.
The result of an extensive journey across the United States—from New York State and New Jersey to South Carolina and Oregon—the documentary gathers crucial stories, faces, and perspectives that have marked the evolutionary milestones of the sport on American soil. The film opens with a foundational chapter dedicated to the epic era of the New York Cosmos. Through the exclusive testimonies of Clive Toye, the historic General Manager who brought immortal legends like Pelé, Cruyff, Chinaglia, and Beckenbauer to the US, alongside former goalkeeper Shep Messing, the project reconstructs the first major media Big Bang of soccer in the United States.
American Wedding then analyzes the current renaissance of the American soccer movement, spearheaded today by global icons like Christian Pulisic. The documentary also shines a light on New York’s new cultural wave, exploring the city’s main street soccer communities. Through insights from key figures like former player Kyle Martino and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a daily debate is opened regarding street soccer: not only as an exceptional incubator for talent, but also as a powerful tool for inclusion and social empowerment within urban communities.
