The glamorous side of Formula 1 - Interview with Lance Stroll BOSS brought performance and style to the paddock

When we think about Formula 1, the first thing that comes to mind is speed. The only unit of measurement we tend to consider when trying to assess a driver. Simply put, the faster a driver goes on track, the greater their chances of winning. True, but looking at it this way means failing to understand that speed is actually the sum of many different factors.

It is a concept that Lance Stroll, Aston Martin's official driver, conveys when we ask him what he believes is the most underrated aspect of Formula 1: «People sometimes think it’s just about going as fast as you can and being aggressive with the car. It’s actually a lot more about precision and feeling. You’re always looking for that small amount of grip, trying to understand what the car is doing and getting everything out of it without going over the limit.

Speed is obviously the foundation of Formula 1, but you need precision to actually use that speed. There’s also a style to how every driver works with the car and finds the limit. And then the technology is such a huge part of the sport now, the amount of engineering and data behind everything we do is pretty incredible. So, you need all of those things working together to be fast.»

Stroll made his Formula 1 debut in 2017 and, later that same season, became the second-youngest driver in history to stand on a Formula 1 podium. He has now competed in more than two hundred Grands Prix, yet his passion for motorsport has never faded: «I started karting when I was four, so it’s basically all I’ve ever known. Obviously you learn a lot and you change as a driver over the years, but that feeling of wanting to get in the car and drive, and wanting to be better every time you go out, is still the same. That’s the biggest thing that hasn’t changed.

When I want to switch off, I think it’s mostly just spending time with friends and family and getting away from racing for a bit. Going home to Canada is always nice because I can see friends, play some different sports, hang out, and just switch off. You’re not thinking about lap times or performance all the time. The season is so intense, so having that time to just relax is important.»
