The stadium set to host the 2027 Europa League final Welcome to Frankfurt
The 2026/27 Europa League season gets underway tonight. Juventus and AC Milan are the two Italian sides competing in the tournament. And, at least according to most bookmakers, they are currently the two favourites to lift the trophy and succeed Aston Villa as Europa League champions.
Of course, it is only September and there is still a long way to go before the ball even starts rolling, so booking a trip to the final in May 2027 might seem a little premature. But if superstition isn't your thing and you like to plan ahead, it might be time to start brushing up on your German.
Where the 2027 Europa League final will be played
The Europa League final will be played on 26 May 2027 at Stadion Frankfurt in Frankfurt. It is the home ground of Eintracht Frankfurt, officially known as Deutsche Bank Park for sponsorship reasons. Its original name, Waldstadion, refers to its location within what can essentially be considered a forest – Wald means forest in German. First opened in 1925, the stadium's current configuration, with an oval-shaped exterior and rectangular interior, dates back to the most recent renovation works, completed in 2005 ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

Those renovations also introduced the stadium's most recognisable feature: the giant screen suspended above the centre of the pitch. The cube-shaped screen measures almost 31 square metres and is made up of 192 modules. Each side features 147,456 red, yellow and blue LEDs, ensuring clear visibility from every seat in the stadium. The entire structure weighs around 30 tonnes.
But there is more to it than meets the eye. The screen also doubles as a storage unit for the stadium's retractable roof. Stadion Frankfurt features a bicycle-spoke structure supporting the world's largest internal steel-covered membrane, made up of 32 sections and covering a total area of 9,000 square metres. It takes around 15 minutes to fully open or close. An architectural detail that makes the stadium unique, while we wait to find out which two teams will eventually meet here for the Europa League final.
