Galex has officially announced its return Will another self-produced brand joins Serie A?

In 1995, the iconic and controversial Luciano Gaucci laid the foundations to bring his Perugia Calcio to paradise. The club’s management also included his eldest son Alessandro, who at the time held the position of chief executive officer. Alongside the goals of Marco Negri, Gaucci junior founded Galex S.r.l., which would become Perugia’s technical sponsor until 2005: ten years of incredible and iconic kits, worn by cult players, but above all one of the very first Italian examples of self-produced kits — a very current topic if we look at the cases of Lecce and Napoli, respectively with M908 and EA7.

The etymology of Galex says a great deal about the creativity of Luciano’s son. Breaking the name down into two parts, the G stands for Gaucci, while Alex is simply the diminutive of Alessandro. On one side we witness the birth of one of the first forms of home-made technical production; on the other, transfer market coups such as Hidetoshi Nakata and Milan Rapaić: two complete unknowns in their first Italian experience who would later prove to be major discoveries. On the bench, coaches such as Novellino and Galeone take turns, preceding the era of Serse Cosmi; on the pitch, meanwhile, young talents like Materazzi, Gattuso, Grosso, Ravanelli, Massimiliano Allegri, Zé Maria, Di Livio, Giovanni Tedesco and Miccoli emerge, which is why Perugia remains, by antonomasia, the club most closely associated with the brand. But perhaps the most unique design piece ever produced by Galex is the 1997/98 Away shirt: an absolute work of art, especially in the long-sleeve version — a kit that looks made for any sport except football, perhaps closer to hockey.

But in Italy, Galex inevitably also passes through Catania, especially in the first year of the sponsorship, when the club was playing in Serie C and the brand produced an incredible trio of Home, Away and Third kits, in which the logo is repeated on all the sleeves, somewhat in the style of the Kappa band. A partnership that lasted until 2004/05, also featuring very interesting details, such as those of the 2001/02 season, in which the shirt had elasticated cuffs and waist. Today, Galex has finally relaunched its social profiles and declared its return: we can only expect great things.
