Manchester City goes for an all-black away kit A tribute to the 1884 kit
PUMA and Manchester City unveil the new Away kit for the 2025/26 season — a tribute to the first Cityzens through an all-black design that reinterprets the 1884 kit, when the football club was based in Gorton.
The design blends classic and modern elements, with a total black look inspired by the historic kit, completed by a traditional collar with a white trim. The metallic crest and silver details create a striking contrast with the black base, resulting in a bold aesthetic that makes this Away shirt truly special. Marco Mueller, Senior Director of Product Line Management Performance Apparel at PUMA, said: “Reimagining Manchester City’s oldest kit was a special honor for us. Not many know that black was the club’s original color, and we love celebrating the culture and identity of our teams and what makes them unique. Designing an all-black jersey was exciting and gave us the opportunity to create something fresh for the Away kit.”
Nuria Tarre, Chief Marketing & Fan Experience Officer of the City Football Group, stated: “We’re thrilled to unveil this season’s Away kit to our fans for the first time – a powerful tribute to our oldest strip, from when the Club was based in Gorton, Manchester. Our fans have always shown great appreciation for kits that celebrate the club’s history, and this one does that perfectly. It’s a bold expression of our identity that we hope will quickly become a favorite among our passionate supporters.” Manchester football historian Dr. Gary James added: “It’s fantastic to see Manchester City referencing their most iconic jersey with the new 2025/26 Away kit.”
