The new BVB jersey celebrates 100 years of history of the old stadium Rote Erde, now home of Borussia Dortmund II
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rote Erde stadium, Borussia Dortmund has unveiled a special kit that will be worn by the first team during the Bundesliga home match against Hamburg, scheduled for Saturday, March 21. The BVB women’s team will later wear the kit in their clash against Recklinghausen and, finally, the BVB legends will also sport it in their match against the Benfica legends.
The jersey features design elements inspired by the Rote Erde, preserved to this day and still shaping the stadium’s unique atmosphere. The venue served as the home of Borussia Dortmund’s first team from 1934 to 1974 and stands just a few steps away from the current Westfalenstadion. For instance, the pattern on the front of the jersey recalls the two entrance gates of the stadium, particularly the distinctive Marathontor (marathon gate). The sleeves, collar and lettering reference the running track that surrounds the pitch, a fundamental part of the club’s sporting activity for decades. The color scheme and the look of the BVB logo are inspired by the sandstone walls that have framed the stadium since its opening in 1926. On the back of the jersey appears the inscription 100 Jahre Stadion Rote Erde (100 years of the Rote Erde stadium).
“Rote Erde stadium is one of the most defining places for BVB: a piece of home that, over the decades, has shown what Borussia Dortmund stands for. With this special jersey, we capture the architecture, atmosphere and history of this stadium and translate them into a contemporary design that visibly connects BVB’s tradition and present.”
