AS Roma will return to the old crest
The fans' wish has now been fulfilled
June 9th, 2025
With a surprising announcement, Roma unveiled the club’s new crest. A return to the past, long called for by the fans and made official by Dan Friedkin and Ryan Friedkin, the club’s two owners: Additionally, we are also proud to announce the progressive return of the historic ASR crest, a symbol that embodies the soul of this Club. This decision, taken with deep respect for our tradition and in response to the heartfelt wishes of our supporters, is a tribute to Roma’s identity. It reflects our belief that the symbols of a Club matter, and that honoring our roots is essential to building our future".
The most significant change is the removal of 'ROMA 1927', the inscription which had sparked discontent among fans since its introduction. In its place, the acronym ASR — Associazione Sportiva Roma — has returned, after being removed in 2013 by former owner James Pallotta. The iconic image of the Capitoline Wolf nursing Romulus and Remus, located in the upper part of the logo, has also been redesigned: it now appears as a screen print on a yellow background, with all details rendered in the same shade of red used in the lower portion. Completing the redesign is a more vibrant yellow outline compared to previous versions of the logo.
The introduction of a new logo is part of a series of initiatives the club is launching to celebrate its centenary in 2027, and to honor AS Roma’s history, traditions, and identity. Naturally, it is also a commercial move and a brand-strengthening strategy, aimed at reinforcing the connection between the club’s identity and that of the Capital. It is currently unclear when the new logo will be integrated into the club’s official communications and visual identity, and most importantly, whether or not it will feature on the 2025/26 match kits.
