Napoli launches Centenary season with the introduction of a new crest The Corsiero del Sole is back
The 2026/27 football season has officially begun, and it is a particularly special one for Napoli as it coincides with the club's 100th anniversary. The occasion will be marked by a series of events and initiatives, the first of which is the reintroduction of the Corsiero del Sole, the Club's first symbol and the city's ancient emblem, representing the passionate spirit of the Neapolitan people.
It will be far more than a simple anniversary. Instead, it will be a year-long celebration inspired by a wish that embraces both memory and the future: "Pe' cient'anne" ("For a hundred years"). This is the guiding theme chosen by Napoli for its Centenary celebrations, with August 1, 1926, serving as the symbolic date, one that belongs above all to the collective memory of the Azzurri faithful.
Yet the history of football in Naples stretches back much further. The city's earliest matches at the end of the nineteenth century paved the way for the founding of the Naples Cricket & Foot-Ball Club in 1906 and, a few years later, Unione Sportiva Internazionale Napoli. These two clubs merged in 1922 to form Foot-Ball Club Internazionale-Naples, a decisive step towards shaping what would become the city's footballing identity.
The turning point came in August 1926, when the members' assembly officially established Associazione Calcio Napoli, a name destined to become part of football history and which, in 1964, evolved into the current Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli. It is a journey marked by changes in structure and identity, but above all by an unbreakable bond with the city and its people. Today, the Centenary represents not only an opportunity to celebrate the past, but also a chance to reflect on a century of belonging while looking to the future with renewed ambition.
