How Arc'teryx Academy is redefining the mountain experience Ahub for climbing, mountaineering and outdoor culture

Far beyond the idea of a destination alone, the way we approach holidays, places, and outdoor experiences has changed profoundly in recent years. Today, the search is for an authentic relationship with the destination, and above all with nature—a relationship built on time, discovery, and awareness. It is an approach that moves beyond the logic of fast-paced travel consumption and finds in slow tourism a new way of exploring. It is precisely within this space that the Arc'teryx Academy fits, returning this year for its fifteenth edition in Chamonix, France, beneath the shadow of Mont Blanc. More than a sports festival, it has become a meeting point for athletes, enthusiasts, beginners, and local communities, with the aim of bringing more people closer to mountain culture.

Set against the unique backdrop of Chamonix, one of the symbolic locations in the history of European mountaineering, the event transformed the valley into a laboratory dedicated to outdoor sports, placing the focus not only on performance but, above all, on the journey required to achieve it. The mountains become a place of personal growth, exchange, and connection, where every experience helps build a deeper relationship with the natural environment. One of the Academy's defining features is the role played by the brand, which has promoted the event for more than a decade, alongside the strength of its community. The mountains, often perceived as a space reserved for experts, are instead presented through a more open and inclusive language: those with greater experience inspire those approaching these disciplines for the first time, creating a diverse ecosystem of skill levels where knowledge is shared and passed on.

From climbing to mountaineering, every clinic becomes an opportunity to better understand the mountains, the importance of technical equipment, and above all to become part of a community. This is one of the strongest values promoted by the event: transforming an individual's passion for sport into a collective experience capable of celebrating both the mountains and their ecosystem. In this sense, Arc'teryx takes on a role that extends far beyond that of a technical outdoor brand. The Academy represents one of the clearest expressions of the company's philosophy: creating tools and opportunities that allow people to experience nature in a more conscious way, encouraging discovery, adventure, and constant self-improvement. Throughout the weekend, Arc'teryx athletes and ambassadors became an integral part of the experience—not simply figures to admire from afar, but people participants could interact with and share time alongside in the field. Taking on a route together with those who experience the mountains at the highest level makes a world that often feels inaccessible far more approachable, revealing that behind every performance lie passion, preparation, and deep respect for the environment.

The ambassadors' presence therefore becomes fundamental in passing on both knowledge and mindset. Their role is not simply to explain a discipline, but to inspire a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts, showing that a relationship with the mountains begins with curiosity and a willingness to learn long before it becomes about achieving results. We met some of them to discuss the meaning of exploration and the mental approach required by outdoor sports. Paolo Marazzi, climber, mountain guide, and alpinist, reflected on the idea that "everything has already been mapped," telling us: "I think there's still so much room for exploration. I've climbed on walls that had never been climbed or mapped before. The approach has changed over the years, but what I've always realized is that even close to home you can still find something that's never been done. Finding an untouched wall in the Alps is extremely difficult, but finding new lines is much easier. We always have to be careful—ideally, we should have as little impact as possible so future generations can continue exploring. I think that's incredibly important." He also connected this perspective to a crucial mental component required to achieve any objective: "Overconfidence in the mountains is a real problem. Managing the physical side is much easier than evaluating risk, and risk assessment is absolutely essential."

Edoardo Rossano, a trail runner whom we met at the Village, offered a glimpse into his deeply personal world and his almost symbiotic relationship with nature: "Nature is also a place of challenge, but everything starts from the love I have for it, for the outdoors, for what I simply call 'being outside.' I love being in nature because I can feel its energy. The landscape constantly changes and, for me, it's also about listening to the sounds. Often I start on the quiet streets of mountain villages, then gradually make my way into the forest before reaching the peaks. Sonically, as well as visually, everything changes, and to me it always feels magical."

What emerges is that both nature and outdoor sports are fuelled by constant mental and visual stimulation. For Paolo Marazzi, the experience of the city is just as essential: "The city gives you so many different stimuli. Never becoming accustomed to the things that can inspire you is the best approach, because sometimes the mountains can feel repetitive. Constantly moving between the mountains and the city keeps my curiosity alive." A perspective that may seem unexpected when thinking about athletes who know natural landscapes with remarkable precision. Yet the visual power of the mountains also plays a central role in the evolution of outdoor sports, becoming a powerful communication tool that helps broaden the community celebrated by Arc'teryx through the Academy. Edoardo Rossano admits he puts great care into the content he creates: "It's only natural that outdoor sports are trying to become more attractive on social media. They've always been confined to a certain set of stereotypes, but I believe it's possible to bring something more by introducing a sense of style. It's great when the people who practise these sports can offer their audience something more, even from an artistic point of view."

The Arc'teryx Academy is about far more than sports clinics. The programme also included a wide range of complementary activities that expanded the outdoor narrative through different perspectives, including workshops, talks, conversations with athletes and creatives, film screenings, and moments dedicated to mountain culture. It is a programme that demonstrates how the outdoor world today is no longer defined solely by sport, but has become a universe of stories, imagery, research, a willingness to question what has come before, and an awareness of everything that still remains to be discovered.

Through these activities, Arc'teryx creates a cultural space around the mountains, celebrating every dimension of them—from technical expertise to creativity, from sustainability to community. The event becomes a meeting point between different disciplines and people from different backgrounds, all united by the same desire to explore. One of the Academy's most compelling aspects is its ability to place the brand at the centre without reducing it to a purely commercial presence. Arc'teryx is present throughout every stage of the experience—in the quality of its organisation, the selection of activities, the involvement of the community, and the creation of an environment where discovering the mountains always comes before the product itself. The brand's philosophy emerges through an approach rooted in its relationship with the landscape and in promoting a more authentic way of experiencing the outdoors. The goal is not simply to equip those heading into the mountains, but to help foster a culture that makes these environments more accessible, more respected, and more deeply experienced.

After fifteen editions, the Arc'teryx Academy Chamonix once again confirms the strength of a format capable of bringing together sport, education, and community. It is an event that reflects a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts—people interested not only in reaching the summit, but in everything that comes along the way: the journey, the people met along the trail, the knowledge gained, and the bond created with nature. Because the future of the mountains also depends on our ability to build communities around them. And through events like this, Arc'teryx continues to transform the outdoors from a simple sporting activity into a shared cultural experience.
