Watford has unveiled the new Third dedicated to Elton John To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his first appointment as club president

Watford officially unveiled their new Third kit for the 2025/26 season and it is a special jersy. The club has decided to celebrate Elton John ahead of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of his first appointment as chairman in 1976. Specifically, it is a jersey whose design takes inspiration from the cover of Diamonds, one of the singer-songwriter's recent albums. For this reason a star pattern and other geometric shapes decorate the solid blue that colors the entire shirt. The details are silver, including the logo applied in a monochrome version. Completing the design, a surprising detail: along the shoulders, instead of the iconic markings of the kit supplier Kelme, there appears a series of capital E letters with a star replacing the horizontal bar in the centre. Obviously a tribute to Elton John, just like the tone-on-tone stars applied on the collar.

The tributes do not end with the kit. The launch was in fact accompanied by a media campaign in which Watford players took part to reinterpret some of the most iconic album covers released by Elton John. Imran Louza and Luca Kjerrumgaard, for example, were photographed in the same enigmatic pose that accompanied the second album released in 1970, Giorgi Chakvetadze stars in A Single Man while Mattie Pollock reinterprets the cover art of Rock of the Westies.

The relationship between Elton John and Watford goes beyond simple fandom. As mentioned, he was chairman of the club on two occasions, from 1976 to 1987 and later from 1997 to 2002. Today he holds the title of honorary president but his name is inextricably linked to the club’s history since one of the stands at Vicarage Road, the Watford home stadium, is named after him. Specifically it is the Sir Elton John Stand, as shown by the large lettering that appears on the stand’s roof and as confirmed by a passage from Your Song written in italics on the inner wall. In addition, a mural of Elton John appears outside the section and Watford also renamed one of the roads leading to Vicarage Road Yellow Brick Road, a stadium where Elton John has performed on five separate occasions.
