Gucci has also embraced Jannik Sinner's all-black style All the details of the look spotted at the 2026 Italian Open

Jannik Sinner is the standout star of the Italian Open in Rome. The Italian tennis player, currently world No. 1, has once again chosen a full-black aesthetic for the 2026 edition of the tournament. A deliberate reprise of the look seen 12 months ago, when the Masters 1000 event in the Italian capital marked his return to official competition following his doping suspension. Back then, black seemed like a practical choice — a way to avoid drawing attention away from the fact that Sinner was simply back on court, leaving stylistic experimentation for future tournaments. This year, however, the decision to revisit the all-black aesthetic appears carefully considered down to the smallest detail.

The Nike kit

As mentioned, Nike once again provided Sinner with the same kit worn during the 2025 edition. The polo shirt, shorts, and iconic cap are all rendered in the same shade, as are his shoes — a pair of Nike Zoom GP Challenge 1.5. Breaking up the monochromatic palette are subtle white accents, such as the outline of the logo and the shoelaces.

Revisiting last season’s black look also goes against the grain of most of the outfits Sinner has worn this year: from the mustard tones of the Australian Open to the pink hues of the Sunshine Double. At Roland Garros, Sinner is expected to wear a light blue kit with Hydrogen Blue details designed to recreate the effect clay has on tennis outfits over the course of a match. These pastel tones sharply contrast with the darkness of an aesthetic in which Sinner nonetheless seems perfectly at ease — one that could eventually evolve into a tradition, turning black into Sinner’s signature color in Rome.

The Gucci bag

It wasn’t only Nike embracing the total-black approach. Gucci also aligned itself with the aesthetic for the Italian Open. While the brand provided Aryna Sabalenka with a more classic duffle bag for her first appearance alongside the label, Sinner received an entirely black duffle bag, free from the signature green-and-red detailing traditionally associated with Gucci. Instead, the bag features the iconic double-G motif embroidered tone-on-tone.

This subtle detail blends seamlessly into Sinner’s robotic aesthetic. A refined elegance stripped of excess and distractions, yet far from boring or monotonous. On the contrary, the duffle bag — paired with his on-court kit — allows Sinner to cultivate an image that feels original, iconic, and aggressive, all while embracing the world’s most ubiquitous color.
