Why Macron is suing Blackburn Rovers? The legal dispute explained
The relationship between Macron and Blackburn Rovers has come to an acrimonious end. In an official statement, the English club confirmed it has been sued by the Italian brand: "The club has been served with court papers by its technical kit supplier, Macron S.p.A., in relation to a contractual dispute. The claim is being handled by the club with the support of its legal team and it would be inappropriate to comment further while legal proceedings are ongoing", the statement reads.
Macron has served as Blackburn’s official kit supplier since 2021, when it replaced Umbro. Over the years, the brand has worked to refine the club’s visual identity, one deeply rooted in its historic Premier League title in the 1994/95 season and in cult figures such as Tugay Kerimoğlu and Roque Santa Cruz — icons of what has since been dubbed the Barclays era, the early 2000s period when the Premier League began establishing itself as the world’s premier football competition. The Home jersey has consistently retained its classic blue-and-white halves, with more experimental designs reserved for the Away and Third kits.
The high point of the partnership, somewhat fittingly, came this season with the release of a total white anniversary kit featuring the club’s historic crest — a collector’s item destined to stand as Macron’s most enduring aesthetic legacy at Blackburn. As of now, no official details have been disclosed regarding the nature of the legal dispute. However, according to The Telegraph, Macron is believed to have enforced a contractual clause preventing Blackburn from entering negotiations with other brands before the expiration of an exclusivity period tied to a potential contract renewal.
